Abstract
This research aims to study the asymmetric details caused by camber, explaining the mechanism behind the generation of camber lateral force and aligning moment. Based on this foundation, establish a nonlinear semi-empirical model for pure camber. Firstly, a finite element (FE) model of a 235/55R18 size tire is built and validated by comparing simulation results with tests. Secondly, the asymmetric detail characteristics caused by pure camber are analyzed. The contact patch properties are studied through the shape and pressure distribution change. The influence of camber on tire carcass deformation is explored by selecting “typical carcass positions.” The influence of camber on the distribution of internal forces in the tangent plane is displayed by selecting “typical tread positions.” Through these analysis, the mechanism of camber tire lateral force and aligning moment is revealed, and the camber-caused local slip phenomenon is demonstrated, providing a basis for nonlinear modeling of pure camber. Finally, a nonlinear semi-empirical model for the lateral force and aligning moment of pure camber is established. This model is validated by parameterizing the test results, and the accuracy of the lateral force and aligning moment reaches 94.87% and 94.02%, respectively.
