Abstract

The December 2025 issue of the International Journal of Space Structures brings together a collection of papers that highlight both analytical advancement and architectural inspiration within the field of spatial structures. This issue includes two regular research papers and two additional papers published in the In Memory of Professor Hoshyar Nooshin: Futures of Spatial Structures section, dedicated to honouring the life and legacy of the founding editor of this journal, Professor Hoshyar Nooshin (1934–2024), Figure 1.

Regular papers
The first paper, Calculation of Euler Angle of Matrix Displacement Method for Space Reticulated Shell, introduces a novel analytical approach to determining Euler angles for spatial rigid frame members in reticulated shells. By deriving specific formulations for cylindrical and spherical shells, the authors provide a direct, non-iterative method that enhances precision and computational efficiency compared with conventional commercial software approaches. This method facilitates a better fit between members and curved surfaces, enabling more accurate modelling of complex geometries.
The second paper, Evaluation of Traditional Iranian Architectural Arcs for Optimum Geometry Design of Single-Layer Diamatic Lattice Space Domes, bridges historical architectural wisdom and modern structural engineering. Drawing inspiration from the geometry of traditional Iranian domes and arches, the study demonstrates how these time-honoured forms can inform the design of efficient contemporary lattice space domes. Through comparative analysis using AutoCAD and SAP2000, the authors show that certain traditional arches allow for reduced material usage and increased structural height, illustrating the enduring relevance of historical design ingenuity.

Personal reflection
For me, this issue holds a deep personal significance. My association with

Professor Nooshin was not only a brilliant academic and pioneer in the field but also a generous mentor and a unique presence in the lives of those who had the privilege to know him. His guiding principle in life was encapsulated in his simple yet profound motto: ‘Hope, Perseverance, and Acceptance’.
He taught that we must begin every endeavour with hope for the best outcome, persevere wholeheartedly in our efforts and accept whatever result follows – then, through that acceptance, renew our hope once again.

As we honour his memory through this special series, we also celebrate the spirit of innovation, rigour and optimism that defined his life and work. It is my hope that these contributions, and those that follow, will carry forward the ideals he so passionately upheld.
