Abstract

The inaugural British Journalism Review Digital Journalism Award, presented as part of the Online Media Awards organised by The Drum magazine, has been won by Channel 4 News. This is the third BJR annual recognition of quality journalism, joining the Cudlipp Award, for popular campaigns and investigations in any national UK newspaper, and the Charles Wheeler Award for outstanding contribution to broadcast journalism, which are presented, respectively, as part of the national Press Awards and at the annual BJR/University of Westminster media conference.
The BJR's award for the Outstanding Digital Team of the Year in online news journalism was one of six won by Channel 4 at a dinner and ceremony held at the Emirates Stadium, London. The judges – BJR editor Kim Fletcher, chairman Bill Hagerty the editorial board members Robin Lustig and Jemima Kiss – highly commended two other entrants, The Stream (al-Jazeera English) and The Times digital newsdesk.
The other categories won by Channel 4 News were Website of the Year, Best Social Media, Best Site for News-led Journalism, Technical Innovation, (shared with al-Jazeera) and Best Twitter Feed, which was awarded to the presenter John Snow.
