Abstract
The annual British Journalism Review Digital Journalism Award for the Outstanding Digital Team of the Year in online news journalism, presented as part of the 2016 Online Media Awards organised by The Drum magazine, has been won by BBC Newsbeat. Targeting a young audience, this multiskilled team made the transition from a radio-based service to providing total digital coverage for Radio 1 and 1Xtra's on-air news while also offering a revamped, supercharged website.
Runner-up was Channel 4 News online's small team, which had continued to be innovative while revealing stories many rivals miss and digging deep into them to uncover the whole truth. And highly commended was Visual Storytelling – Al Jazeera, which approached news from a novel, visual direction, using all platforms and interactive storytelling.
