Abstract

Original article: Caluori, N., Jackson, J. C., Gray, K., & Gelfand, M. (2020). Conflict changes how people view God. Psychological Science, 31(3), 280–292. https://doi.org/10.1177/0956797619895286
When recently reviewing the code for this article, the first author noticed a small typo that resulted in some incorrect numbers and interpretations of results in the Granger tests for Study 4. She reran the analyses with corrected code and verified that the results still support the conclusions of the article. This Corrigendum is fixing the incorrect passages.
First, the results of the Granger tests shown in Table 5 (p. 290) are being updated. In addition, the table’s title is being changed, the heading over the results column is being updated, and the note below the table is being updated. The corrected version of the table is shown below.
Second, the following changes are being made to the first paragraph on p. 290. The fourth and fifth sentences are being updated as follows: Tests indicated significant results at lags of t – 8, t – 9, and t – 10 years. That is, deaths in violent conflict at time t could predict punitive-God belief 8, 9, and 10 years in the future, even when analyses control for punitive-God belief at time t (see Table 5 for full results).
In addition, the following new sentence is being added at the end of the same paragraph: There was also a significant effect of punitive-God beliefs at time t on conflict at time t – 2, suggesting that there may be a mutually reinforcing relationship between conflict and punitive-God beliefs.
Third, the final sentence in the opening of the Discussion section (p. 290) is being removed, so that section will now contain only two sentences.
