Abstract

Rubber expansion joints
When fluid is pumped around a system, it normally happens as a series of pulses rather than a smooth flow. The nature and frequency of the pulses depends on the pump, but they can have undesirable effects.
Pulses can easily be carried around the building through the pipe network, possibly causing noise and/or vibration problems, and sometimes, the energy is sufficient to cause damage to the pipes over time.
Varieties of connector
The fluid pressure increases as the pulse passes through the connector. This expands the rubber arch or arches of the connector outward, absorbing energy. This greatly reduces or eliminates the pulse. Flexible connectors are therefore most commonly used on the inlet and outlets of pumps and similar equipment.
Mason UK can supply a great variety of flexible connectors. Some of the options available are as follows:
A variety of elastomers to suit the application, including natural rubber, butyl, EPDM, neoprene, teflon, and nitrile.
Reinforcement can be nylon or stronger materials such as Kevlar.
Some of our connectors (Safeflex) have steel rings rather than wire to prevent the carcass pulling out—unique to Mason products. No Safeflex connector has ever failed in service.
Ductile iron and a variety of stainless steel grade flanges available.

Lightweight acoustic floor systems
When designing a floating floor system, there are many factors which decide the optimum design. The best performing systems are typically heavy and thick, using a concrete layer, such as those described in the jack up floating floors. However, sometimes this is undesirable or not possible due to structural and building limitations.
If the existing floor lacks sufficient strength, it is not desirable to pour concrete, or costs need to be controlled, a lightweight floating floor is often the best choice. Very high levels of noise and vibration isolation can be achieved with a correctly designed system.
Rubber or spring isolators are used to support a floor made from layers of material. Layers are typically wooden boards, paving slabs, or screed. Multiple layers, possibly including batons, are necessary to create a stiff floor and to introduce enough mass to correctly compress the isolator.

Sound barrier walls, acoustic barriers, sound fence panels
The Sound Barrier Wall System is an acoustically absorbent, high transmission loss noise barrier wall system. They are ideal for absorbing and blocking unwanted noise from commercial, industrial, residential, or traffic noise applications. Silent Protector Noise Walls are a maintenance free alternative in the sound mitigation wall industry.
Noise Barriers (also known as Noise Walls, Acoustic Barriers, Noise Fences, or Sound Barrier Walls) have been made of a number of different materials over the years. Noise Barriers are solid obstructions built between noise sources, be it highway noise or air conditioning equipment, that are designed to be “line-of-sight” interruptions between the noise source and the receiver. Noise Barriers are typically made from concrete, steel, vinyl, wood, or earth mounds called “berms.” Berms are pretty good but in order to get them high enough to be effective sound barriers, they have to be so wide they take up huge amounts of valuable land. Steel barriers are expensive, subject to corrosion, and dent badly especially if they are going to have snow thrown up against them by snow plows. Concrete sound barriers are incredibly heavy, very expensive and are subject to needing replacement in as little as 10–20 years. Properly engineered vinyl barrier like Silent Protector Noise Wall is the best choice for lower in place costs, great acoustic performance and appearance combined with a life span many times that of all other acoustic barrier noise wall systems.

Acoustic absorbers
Absorption of a surface is characterized by the Absorption Coefficient, defined as the proportion of the sound (intensity) absorbed by the surface. It is frequency dependant and has a value of 1 for a perfect absorber and 0 for a perfect reflector.
Acoustic absorbers can be broken down into three distinct types:
Porous absorbers;
Panel absorbers;
Resonant absorbers.
Each of these types of absorber has a different frequency response. TVS offers a wide range of absorptive products for treatment of walls and ceilings. With full assistance and advice from our technical team, we provide solutions that offer
High levels of acoustic performance;
Esthetic designs;
Bespoke solutions;
Cost-effective designs.

AQFA-10 absorber sound blanket
The AQFA-10 Absorber Sound Blanket is used to add sound absorption to interior applications to reduce reverberation and echo. AQFA-10 Absorber Blankets are constructed using two layers of 1-in-thick quilted fiberglass absorption (QFA) and feature a durable vinyl facing.
Our AQFA-10 blanket is available in a variety of colors and stitch patterns and can be made in any size up to 4′ × 25′. AQFA-10 blankets are ideal for large reflective industrial environments where reverberant noise energy needs to be reduced. They may also be used to improve sound transmission loss when used in enclosures or to supplement other structures.
Typical uses include industrial plants, gymnasiums, auditoriums, and warehouses. These sound absorption blankets are Class 1 fire-rated and have a sound absorption rating of 0.85.

AlphaSorb® pro acoustic panel room kit
Ships in 2–3 business days. The AlphaSorb Pro Acoustic Panel Room Kit takes our AlphaSorb Acoustic Panel Room Kit to the next level. This acoustic kit provides additional absorption by combining 2-in-thick acoustical substrate along with corner bass traps.
As a DIY (do it yourself) solution, these acoustic panel kits are available in 3 room sizes and 10 colors and are designed to for small (10′ × 10′), medium (10′ × 15′), or large (20′ × 20′) rooms. The square footage of sound absorbing material in each panel kit is calculated to meet the needs of the room size specified to help lower sound intensity and improve speech intelligibility. Each panel is wrapped with industry standard Guilford of Maine FR701 Style 2100 acoustically transparent fabric and ships complete with the basic mounting hardware to install direct to the wall.

Super W Pads
The Super W Pad is one of the thickest most versatile and efficient pads available.
Super W Pads reduce noise, high frequency vibration, and impact from typical equipment:
Single package air conditioners and heat pumps;
Fan coil units;
Condensing units;
Electronic air cleaners;
Beverage coolers;
Pumps;
Air compressors.
Noise and vibration control pads should be relied upon only as a noise break and minor vibration control to be placed between equipment and a stiff support surface. Significant vibrations require “tall” rubber or spring mounts that yield higher deflections.

Aircraft noise
Rion and ANV Measurement Systems offer a wide range of really cost-effective solutions for aircraft noise. They are a viable alternative to complex Integrated Noise and Track Monitoring (INTM) systems which rely on integration of the noise monitors with the airport’s radar and/or information systems. It can take many months or even years to get to the point where INTMs start producing useful data and their implementation can be time-consuming, complex, and extremely expensive.
Rion have a unique alternative system which identifies and classifies aircraft noise, automatically distinguishing it from extraneous noise sources. It is a single, integrated system which has evolved through many years experience of airport noise monitoring. Purchase and maintenance costs are a fraction of those for an INTM system with traditional airport noise monitors.
The Rion NA-37B uses directional microphones and powerful cross-correlation techniques to log aircraft noise events, even automatically detecting whether the aircraft is taking off, landing, or just flying past the measurement position by tracking its trajectory. An SSR radar receiver option can add additional certainty to the aircraft noise event recognition.
