Andrea Mertens is a trans, bisexual, white educator who is interested in the potential for sex education through smartphones as well as sex education language that includes LGBTQIA+ people. Since completing her Bachelor of Education at McGill, she has focused primarily on sexual health education, working with Sexpressions and Healthy McGill. She currently coordinates SextEd, a sexual health texting helpline for anglophone youth run by ACCM (AIDS Community Care Montreal). As part of this role, she supports youth-led sex education initiatives and trains Education students in inclusive sex education.
