Abstract

Highlights in Update 98
And welcome to the first newsletter of 2016. We very much hope that you have had a good festive period and are now gearing up to the challenges of a new financial year.
In this update we have reviewed Chapter 4, Employing and Managing People. With the complexities attached to managing people it is always important to keep abreast of current guidelines. Chapter 4 provides a broad overview of the considerations we need to give to managing people within Primary Care and General Practice.
With just a few weeks into the New Year we found ourselves affected by junior doctors industrial action and for those practices that employee trainee doctors that created problems for the four days affected by industrial action. With no settlement agreed, and the Health Secretary looking to impose changes to junior doctors contracts, I doubt this will be the last we have seen of strike action. This is an area that we are not too familiar with in Primary Care and as such it is important to ensure that we have current guidance to hand regarding HR issues that present as a consequence. Hopefully Chapter 4 will provide a comprehensive resource.
We also take the opportunity to welcome a new author to the team, Mo Ali, with Renos and Cathryn having left the Handbook recently after several years of service. We wish Mo well, I am sure he will be a great addition to the team.
Wishing all our readers the best
Junaid Bajwa, Ninaj Patel and Mo Ali
