The Acceptance Level of Health Information Management System (HIMS) Among Health Care Workers in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

A health management information system is designed to assist in the management and planning of health programmes. The objectives of the study were to assist the perception of the physicians regarding the newly implemented health information management system (HIMS) in a tertiary setting and to provide useful suggestions and recommendations to the management authorities to address the core issues regarding the effective implementation of the system. The cross-sectional quantitative research design recruited 256 study participants, comprising mainly doctors and nursing officers working in different areas of a tertiary care hospital. The data was collected using the structured questionnaire from June to July 2023. A total of 256 doctors and nursing officers were assessed for their knowledge of the HIMS system using the questionnaire, and the perception of healthcare workers regarding the advantages and disadvantages of the HIMS system. The majority of the participants had a good knowledge of the HIMS. 89.8% of participants were in favour of HIMS because it is paper-free. The HIMS system has easy accessibility, compatibility, quick, commercial and highly efficient. Moreover, it is cost-effective, reduces medical errors and helps in data generation, sharing and analysis. While it is time-consuming and requires computer skills, it leads to poor doctor–patient contact and confidence-building.
