Abstract

When the Global Business Review (GBR) was launched, we wanted it to fulfil a particular mission: to disseminate new and high-calibre research ideas, as well as enrich practitioners’ knowledge and skills so that they can contribute to effective policy making. For 15 years, the journal has served researchers and practitioners with that sole objective. With time, the journal has grown and flourished. First, it attained an impact factor that has been matched by only a few Indian management journals. Thereafter, it increased its relevance by changing its periodicity from bi-annual to quarterly.
The journal’s stakeholders—academicians, practitioners and policymakers—took note. They started sending an increased number of excellent papers to our editorial team. It is worth noting that since 2000, the number of manuscripts submitted to GBR has increased by nearly 900 per cent. While the number and quality of manuscripts have gone up, so has the challenge to ensure that our reviews are timely and rigorous, that the workloads of the editor and the SAGE staff are kept within manageable levels, and that the journal reaches the right readers at the right time.
In recent times, we have made incremental changes to meet the journal’s evolving needs. For instance, we have added a CEO’s Forum, case studies, research notes, special issues and a communiqué. We have also restructured the editorial advisory team to allow for a broader, multinational base of decision-makers, with formal representation from various academic and multilateral agencies. The core team producing the journal has, however, remained stable and our core practices are unchanged. We could not dream of making changes that would undermine the journal’s mission to provide you with the quality of information you have come to expect from it.
After much deliberation on our achievements and current stature, we feel that GBR is now ready to graduate to a bi-monthly frequency from being a quarterly journal. We believe that this would help the journal better harness the enormous opportunity of drawing the world’s attention to the ongoing challenge of management education. We are now confident that we have the speed, strength and size to ensure that our authors’ manuscripts are processed more quickly and distributed more widely than ever.
On behalf of the editorial board, I thank SAGE Publications for its unfailing support to the journal. Finally, I thank all of you who read the journal, cite its articles, send your papers for its consideration and are our reviewers and authors. Without you, none of this would be possible.
