Employee-driven innovation in the context of Italian industrial relations: the case of a public hospital

This article looks at the role of various forms of participation in experiences of employee-driven innovation in Italy. On the one hand, it analyses the extent to which forms of direct and representative participation have fostered processes of organizational innovation driven by the knowledge and creativity of employees. On the other hand, the article identifies the specific limits of these forms of employee involvement in processes of organizational innovation. Innovative experiences of employee involvement will be presented on the basis of a case study. The new approach to employee involvement applied in the analysed case provides indications for reflection on the innovation of the Italian system for the representation and participation of employees. The study shows that by integrating and coordinating various forms of participation, employees' knowledge and creativity can be used more effectively in the context of organizational innovation processes.

Cet article examine le rôle des diverses formes de participation à des expériences d'innovation participative en Italie. D'une part, il analyse jusqu'à quel point les formes de participation directe et représentative ont favorisé les processus d'innovation organisationnelle générés par le savoir et la créativité des travailleurs. D'autre part, il identifie les limites spécifiques de ces formes d'implication des travailleurs dans les processus d'innovation organisationnelle. Des expériences innovantes de participation des travailleurs sont présentées sur la base d'une étude de cas. La nouvelle approche d'implication des travailleurs appliquée au cas analysé fournit une base de réflexion sur l'innovation du système italien de représentation et de participation des travailleurs. L'étude montre qu'en intégrant et en coordonnant les différentes formes de participation, les connaissances et la créativité des travailleurs peuvent être utilisées de manière plus efficace dans le contexte des processus d'innovation organisationnelle.

Dieser Beitrag befasst sich mit der Rolle verschiedener Partizipationsformen bei mitarbeitergestützten Innovationsprozessen in Italien. Einerseits wird untersucht, inwieweit die direkte und repräsentative Partizipation organisatorische Innovationsprozesse, die durch das Wissen und die Kreativität der Mitarbeiter angetrieben wurden, unterstützt hat. Andererseits zeigt der Autor die Grenzen dieser Formen der Arbeitnehmerbeteiligung an organisatorischen Innovationsprozessen auf. Ausgehend von einer Fallstudie werden Erfahrungen mit innovativen Partizipationsformen beschrieben. Der neue Ansatz, der in den untersuchten Fällen im Bereich der Mitarbeiterbeteiligung angewandt wurde, liefert Denkanstöße für Innovationen im italienischen System der Arbeitnehmervertretung und -beteiligung. Die Studie zeigt, dass die Verknüpfung und Koordinierung verschiedener Partizipationsformen zu einer effizienteren Nutzung der Kenntnisse und der Kreativität der Mitarbeiter bei organisatorischen Innovationsprozessen führen kann.
