Exploring Applications of a Peer-Facilitated Cognitive-Behavioral Workbook for LGBTQ People: Results From an Acceptability and Preliminary Effectiveness Trial
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals experience increased risk for mental health challenges, such as depression and anxiety. Many LGBTQ individuals experience barriers to accessing formal psychotherapy. This study suggests that a peer-facilitated application of the LGBTQI Workbook for CBT may be a valuable resource for LGBTQ individuals experiencing depression and/or anxiety symptoms. To effectively implement the workbook, facilitators may need to supplement workbook content as written by: (a) providing guidance while introducing, applying, and integrating exercises; (b) engaging in post-exercise guided questioning to facilitate future application of intervention strategies; and (c) delivering supplemental psychoeducation and recommending additional strategies for managing mental health challenges.
