Abstract
When the modified Efficiency Index (EI) was applied to the documentation of child progress at 28 outreach sites, the children demonstrated Els ranging from 1.31 to 1.95. An EI of 1.0 based on actual gains, ideal gain (or time in the program), and developmental status indicates that a child or group of children made the progress expected. The modified Efficiency Index is equally applicable to local sites, is easy to calculate, makes possible the documentation of child progress for severely handicapped children, and provides a means for internal decision-making in relation to child progress.
