Abstract

Western Political Science Association (WPSA)
Plan to Join Us in Seattle in 2025
The 2025 meeting of the Western Political Science Association will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Seattle, Washington, from April 17 to April 19. Tony Affigne, Providence College, is serving as program chair for this meeting. University of Washington professors Scott Lemieux and George Lovell are co-chairing the Local Arrangements Committee. Located a few blocks from Pike Place Market, the Hyatt Regency is a lovely hotel with well-organized conference space. Mid-April is a beautiful time of year to visit the Evergreen State, so we hope to see you there!
Proposals for the 2025 meeting are encouraged. The DEADLINE for submission of paper and panel proposals, along with requests to serve as chairs and discussants, is September 27, 2024. The theme for the 2025 meeting is: “A New Requiem for Politics? Racing Toward Catastrophe—or Transformation?” While proposals are welcome on all topics in political science, the program chair is encouraging proposals that explore the extent to which recent WPSA conference themes have played a role (or not) in public debates about the direction of the nation and the world. The ultimate question the theme asks participants to consider is whether democratic political norms will endure, erode, or be transformed. Scholars in all subfields of the discipline are welcome to submit proposals on subjects related to this theme. Details about the conference, the Call for Papers, the list of section chairs, and proposal instructions appear on the WPSA website: https://www.wpsanet.org/.
The WPSA annual meeting not only offers the opportunity for traditional research presentations and roundtable discussions but also a place for interested groups to schedule workshops, mini-conferences, and special events. Several workshops and mini-conferences have already been scheduled for the annual meeting. Find out about them on our website. If you are part of a research community that is interested in holding a workshop, mini-conference, or special event, we may be able to accommodate your group. These activities can be held at different times throughout the conference or on Wednesday, April 16. For information about these opportunities, please contact Richard Clucas, WPSA Executive Director, at
