This study examined the degree of correspondence between the Self-Directed Search (SDS) interest codes of Chinese high school students in Hong Kong (456 girls and 321 boys) and their choices of academic track, university majors, and career. Students in the Science track had higher Realistic and Investigative scores, and students in the Arts track had higher Artistic, Social, and Enterprising scores. The correspondence between the high-point interest code and tentative choices of university majors and career (i.e., hit rates) was generally lower than those reported by past research studies in the United States. There were also gender differences in the SDS scores as well as in the degree of choice congruence. The findings provided some support for the concurrent validity of the SDS for Chinese high school students. The implications of the results on the cross-cultural validity of the SDS are discussed.
