Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Contest
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is a nonprofit veterans service organization composed of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard and reserve force that has many programs and services that support veterans, service members and their families, and communities worldwide. This essay contest encourages young students to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay on this year’s theme: What is patriotism to me? Students enrolled in Grades 6 to 8 are welcome to participate. Each first place state winner receives a minimum of US$500 at the national level, and the national first place winner wins US$5,000. ExtremeTerrain’s Student Scholarships
ExtremeTerrain is made up of Jeep Wrangler enthusiasts who value the Jeep culture as well as the preservation of public lands, community awareness, and environmental awareness. The goal of the ExtremeTerrain Scholarship program is to raise more awareness for the recreational use of public lands and support youth who are working toward a career in the environmental/recreational land use planning/land management industry. High school seniors and college students pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Research, Land Use, Earth and Atmosphere Studies, Sustainable Land Management, Parks and Recreation, or Sustainable Agriculture Systems are invited to submit a 700- to 1,500-word essay that describes themselves and why they feel it is important to maintain access to public lands for recreational use and how they plan to use their degree to advocate for the recreational use of public lands. Patriots penCurrent college students should also send proof of current enrollment in an accredited U.S. college or university. ExtremeTerrain is offering two US$2,500 scholarships (one for the fall semester and one for the spring semester). Scholarships will be sent directly to the winner’s school as a tuition payment. Submissions are due on October 15. The winner of the spring semester will be selected by November 15 and the fall semester winner will be selected by July 15. Innovation in Education Scholarship
LA Tutors is a test-preparation, academic-consultation, and private-tutoring company based in Los Angeles. They want to foster the creative genius in students and want to commend outstanding students who have a made a difference in the lives of others through some innovative or technological fashion. LA Tutors invite high school or college students with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher who have designed an innovative project that makes a difference in the lives of others (examples: creating a website, series of blogs, an app, fundraising event, etc.) to submit an essay describing the goal of the particular project and provide supporting documentation. A letter of recommendation and photo should also be included with the essay. There is no minimum or maximum word/page count. The essay, idea, or creation must be the applicant’s original work.
