Polygon formation mechanism of resilient wheels based on lateral self-excited vibration

The accurate prediction of the formation process of wheel polygonization is crucial for mitigating safety issues of vehicle caused by high-frequency excitation. An iterative model of long-term circumferential wear of resilient wheels is established in this study. Considering the lateral self-excited vibration characteristics of resilient wheels, a polygon evolution theory and a wear updating strategy based on the maximum wear cycle are proposed. Through the analysis of polygonal wear process at various operation speeds, the wear mechanism of resilient wheel is elucidated. The results indicate that when the lateral vibration frequency is not an approximate integer multiple of the wheel rolling frequency, the “Indivisible” polygonal wear phenomenon is likely to occur. The findings of this study will contribute to further improving the current wheel polygonal wear mechanism.
