Abstract
It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children announces Vincent J. Palusci, MD, MS, FAAP as the new Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of Child Maltreatment.
Dr. Palusci is a Professor of Pediatrics at New York University Grossman School of Medicine in New York City where he chairs the Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital Child Protection Committee. He is a board certified general and child abuse pediatrician at Bellevue Hospital and Langone Health. He received his medical degree from the Rutgers University New Jersey Medical School and completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at New York University / Bellevue Hospital Center. He entered private practice and later joined the faculty of the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University where he was a TRECOS research scholar and earned a Master of Science in epidemiology. As Professor of Pediatrics at Wayne State University, he opened the child protection center at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and was the first program director for their child abuse pediatrics fellowship.
Dr. Palusci is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has served on the APSAC Board of Directors, Center on Child Policy, and boards for APSAC chapters in Michigan and New York. He was also Editor-in-Chief of the APSAC Advisor and Alert. His research has focused on epidemiologic, health issues and prevention, and he has edited six journal special issues, written 50 peer-reviewed articles and 80 chapters, reports and guidelines and has edited seven books. He is currently Associate Editor for Child Abuse Review and is a member of the editorial boards of Child Abuse & Neglect and Pediatric Radiology. He received the Ray E. Helfer Award for child abuse prevention in 2004 from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Alliance for Children’s Trust and Prevention Funds and the APSAC Outstanding Service Award in 2018.
Dr. Palusci’s term will begin in 2021. The APSAC Board of Directors is grateful to outgoing Editor-in-Chief Daniel Whitaker, PhD, for a successful term, from 2015-2020, maintaining the journal’s scholarly excellence and raising its impact factor. APSAC looks forward to continuing the tradition of scholarly excellence in support of best practices for prevention, intervention and justice for maltreated children and their families
