Abstract

I’m delighted to be taking over as Book Review Editor for Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly (JMCQ). JMCQ is rare among contemporary journals in maintaining an extensive book review section with a broad scope. This is an important resource for the profession, and Ron Rodgers, the outgoing book review editor, deserves our thanks for keeping the section strong over the past three years. We’re introducing an important innovation with the coming volume of JMCQ. From this point on, book reviews will be published online first, providing more timely information about new work in the field. We’re also introducing a new policy to consider reviews of select books published in languages other than English. Books come to be reviewed in JMCQ in two ways: Some books are selected by the book review editor and reviews solicited; in other cases, prospective reviewers propose books they are interested in reviewing. A list of books currently available for review, as well as guidelines for preparing reviews, can be found at https://jmcqbookreview.ucsd.edu/. We’re particularly interested in review essays covering multiple books, and prospective reviewers with ideas for such reviews should contact me. Authors and reviewers are also welcome to contact me with suggestions about books that should be on the list.
