Abstract

Only the actions of the just Smell sweet, and blossom in their dust . . . (James Shirley)
Dear Norm,
For some, Death is such a final marker or closure. Some say, like James Shirley, it levels us all. But for those of us who care, there is always a way to retrieve from the departed’s past its stirrings into the present, traces of a usable, exemplary life, a vibrance of being, and intellect that echoes across the divide that Death might seek to mark. And in this sense, Dear Norman, “Death will not find us thinking that you die!” (Martin Carter).
