Spousal Violence Against Women in North-East India: An Analysis of the Risk Factors Using National Family Health Survey-5 Data

Abstract

The study aims to find out the demographic and socio-economic factors associated with the prevalence of spousal violence in north-east India using NFHS-5 (2019-20) data. The result of binary logistic regression suggests that while women's age, education level, and employment status have a significant influence in reducing such abuse, factors related to their economic autonomy like their ownership of a house and having a savings bank account, etc. have negative impacts on spousal violence experience. The study emphasizes that this area needs region-specific interventions from the government to address the issue of spousal violence.
