Stroke Prevention by Recognizing Risk Factors and Warning Signs and Symptoms

Annually more than 700,000 individuals suffer a first time stroke. As the population ages there will be a major rise in the number of stroke events in the next few decades. Additionally, there are many more young adults who also suffer from strokes. While there are genetic and ethnic risk factors that are non-modifiable, there are health measures individuals can observe/practice to prevent strokes. Individuals who have already experienced a trans ischemic attack (TIA) should view this as a warning of a potential impending stroke event and begin to modify life style behaviors to be more in line with preventive health recommendations.
