The reported prevalence of psychotropic medication use is high for individuals With autism spectrum disorders. Little is knoWn about the quality of services individuals receive When taking psychotropic medication. This article revieWs the best practice recommendations for community teams to folloW When an individual With an autism spectrum disorder is taking psychotropic medication. Specifically, it provides instruction for caregivers on managing and monitoring psychotropic medication and includes 20 questions for caregivers to ask about psychotropic medication, 12 guidelines for caregivers to folloW When giving medications, and specific examples of data collection methods to measure the effect of psychotropic medication.
