Abstract

In recognition of the outstanding quality of many of the papers published in Tourism Economics, the journal has established an annual Award for Journal Article Excellence. The Award is named in honour of Professor Thea Sinclair (1950–2006) and her work in the field of tourism economics.
The winner of the Award is determined on the basis of a highly competitive two-stage process, where in the first stage, the award committee (comprised of eight members) ranked the best two papers from each issue. A list of 10 papers were then ranked again in the second stage by the same committee members. Among the criteria used in making the decision are the value of the paper’s contribution to original research; the quality of its argument; the coherence and concision of its presentation; and its contribution to the academic reputation of the journal. Only those papers published in Tourism Economics during the volume year in question are considered.
