Abstract
During the 27th year of the Journal, a total of 585 unsolicited manuscripts (original research, essays, concepts/methods and review articles) were submitted. This compares with 700 in 2020–21, a 16% decrease. Submissions come from around the world: UK (14%), the rest of Europe (17%), North America (20%), South America (3%), Asia (31%), Africa (7%), and Australia and New Zealand (8%). By October 2022, 11 (2%) had been accepted for publication and 554 (95%) rejected; 14 (2%) were invited to re-submit a revised version. We aim to inform authors within 12 weeks of our initial decision (ie whether or not a manuscript will be sent for peer-review), and over the 27th year the mean time was 4 weeks. The mean time from submission to first decision after peer review was 16 weeks. For the 33 papers published in volume 27, the mean length of time between resubmission and acceptance was 115 days (range 25–236). The mean time from acceptance to online publication was 21 days.
