Abstract

16–20 October 2017
Istanbul, Turkey
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) and Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) are organizing, in collaboration with the European Evaluation Society (EES) and the Government of Turkey, the fifth global National Evaluation Capacities (NEC) Conference in Istanbul from 16 to 20 October 2017. The event will include two days of technical training workshops (16–17 October) and three days devoted to the Conference (18–20 October). The NEC Conference will provide opportunities for participants to share perspectives and progress since the 2015 NEC Conference in developing national evaluation capacities; to examine the implications of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) for principals, principles and practices of evaluation; and, considering these new opportunities and challenges, to explore new directions for evaluation. The 2017 NEC Conference is designed first and foremost for government officials from national institutions directly and indirectly engaged with evaluation and/or the SDG agenda. Other participants will include UNDP staff, members of the EES, experts from other networks such as the United Nations Evaluation Group, the Evaluation Coordination Group of the multi-lateral development banks, and OECD–DAC, as well as from professional evaluation associations and other members of the wider global evaluation and development community. It is expected that there will be approximately 300 participants at the Conference. The Conference also benefits from the generous support of the Government of Finland.
