Abstract

SVM 2018 Fellows’ Course
Ido Weinberg, MD, FSVM
Mitchell D Weinberg, MD, FSVM
The fourth annual SVM Fellows’ Course was held in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 1–2, 2018. Once again, the course was at full capacity soon after registration opened. A diverse group of 50 Fellows representing all invasive and non-invasive specialties focusing on vascular disease attended the event. The level of participant engagement throughout the course rose this year through a continued focus on case-based learning and further development of hands-on learning sections. Through didactic patient-based and interactive presentations, the Society’s expert faculty covered the entire spectrum of vascular disease, ranging from diagnostic algorithms for edema to advanced therapies for limb salvage.
With the help of our generous industry sponsors, the Fellows engaged in a variety of in-depth discussions at mealtime and evening symposia. Ultrasound-guided access, point-of-care ultrasound, advanced femoropopliteal intervention, deep venous intervention, and the management of thoracic aneurysms were all covered in content-rich symposia.
Hands-on stations featured practice with ultrasound-guided access, point-of-care ultrasound, and image optimization.
Feedback from attendees of the course was overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to holding another successful course in 2019.

SVM members meet during the 2018 AHA Scientific Sessions
Yogen Kanthi, MD
The 2018 Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association in Chicago had a strong representation of SVM members. Drs Yogen Kanthi and Aaron Aday from the Next Generation Committee brought together a group of SVM members for an informal social event at the Beacon Tavern on November 11, 2018. Additional SVM members in attendance were Drs Geoff Barnes, Kamal Gupta, Naomi Hamburg, Diane Treat-Jacobson, Jeremy Van’t Hof, Paul Wenneberg, and Mary Whipple, BSN, RN. Many topics were discussed in conversation, including the current state of vascular medicine, opportunities to build a strong vascular medicine workforce, prospects for collaborative research, and even the requisite vote on our favorite songs from the musical Hamilton. The group thought the dinner was highly successful, and they expressed enthusiasm for regular informal social gatherings at future meetings. Stay tuned for further information on other informal SVM gatherings.
