Abstract

The Journal of Health Psychology is planning a Special Issue on psychological aspects of diabetes, guest edited by Professor Jane Speight (The Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes) and Professor Timothy Skinner (University of Copenhagen).
The Special Issue will be published early in 2019. Papers are invited from researchers investigating any aspect of living with and managing diabetes from a psychological or behavioural perspective.
Diabetes is a global health priority, currently affecting 425 million people, of all ages and all stages of life. Diabetes is a complex family of related conditions – type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. The challenges facing people living with diabetes and their families, as well as health professionals and policy makers are varied and complex.
We are particularly interested to receive submissions that focus on under-researched areas and applied research, those reporting novel studies, methods, and findings, as well as those developing or reporting on theoretical perspectives. Systematic literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative studies are all acceptable. We are also interested to reflect the journal’s international readership, and encourage submissions from multidisciplinary teams and international collaborations.
Suggestions for possible topics may include but are not limited to:
Beyond HbA1c: outcomes that matter to people with diabetes
Communication with and about people with diabetes
Development and evaluation of non-stigmatising yet effective mass-media campaigns
Differentiation of depression and anxiety from diabetes distress
Flourishing with diabetes
Novel interventions to prevent or reduce diabetes distress
Novel approaches to preventing acute and long-term complications
