Abstract

Call for Papers
Special Issue on
The journal is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for its special issue on “School-based research on autism spectrum disorders”. The journal invites high-quality manuscripts that present data or methodological perspectives on research conducted in community school settings (n.b. this does not include research conducted in lab schools, analogue classrooms, after-school programs, tutoring programs or summer camp). The special issue will look to present the breadth of research in this field, some of the methodological challenges and the potential opportunities of research in school settings.
Possible topics might include:
Evaluations (including RCTs) of educational provision or interventions delivered in schools (community based programs from preschool and primary education through to adulthood). We are particularly keen on comparative interventions but studies utilising a variety of designs are appropriate. Longitudinal research of children’s progress through school, including studies of how education affects adult outcomes. Experimental studies of children’s responses to classroom settings (e.g. their sensory experience). Evaluating the use of technology in the classroom. Evaluations of the effectiveness of educational inclusion and different forms of provision. Large-scale surveys of practitioner or pupil responses on the educational experience. Presentation of novel but sound methodological approaches that may include community (child, parent or teacher) participation and reflective or critical appraisal of these.
