Abstract

At the request of Sage and the Journal Editors, the following article has been retracted:
Yang, W., Hong, L., Xu, X., Wang, Q., Huang, J., & Jiang, L. LncRNA GAS5 suppresses the tumorigenesis of cervical cancer by downregulating miR-196a and miR-205. Tumor Biology. 2017; 39(7). https://doi.org/10.1177/1010428317711315.
The authors contacted Sage to request that this article is retracted.
During investigation of this request, Sage became aware of concerns raised on PubPeer regarding some of the figures in the article. The following issues were found: • Figure 2E (Flow cytometry analysis to determine apoptosis (PI) of transfected SiHa cells with pcDNA-GAS5, lower left quadrant) appears highly similar to Figure 2C (Apoptosis of SGC-7901 cells transfected with Ctrl-siR were tested by flow cytometric analysis, lower left quadrant) in a retracted article by a different author group

• Figure 2F (Flow cytometry analysis to determine apoptosis (PI) of transfected ME-180 cells with pcDNA, lower left quadrant) appears highly similar to Figure 6A (Flow cytometry to evaluate apoptosis rate in A549 cells transfected with pcDNA-GAS5 + miR-23a, lower left quadrant) and Figure 6B (Flow cytometry to evaluate apoptosis rate in H157 cells transfected with pcDNA-GAS5 + miR-23a, lower left quadrant) in a retracted article by a different author group

• Figure 2F (Flow cytometry analysis to determine apoptosis (PI) of transfected ME-180 cells with pcDNA-GAS5, lower left quadrant) appears highly similar to Figure 6B (Flow cytometry to evaluate apoptosis rate in H157 cells transfected with pcDNA-control, lower left quadrant) and Figure 6B (Flow cytometry to evaluate apoptosis rate in H157 cells transfected with pcDNA-GAS5 + miR-control, lower left quadrant) in a retracted article by a different author group

• Figure 2F (Flow cytometry analysis to determine apoptosis (PI) of transfected ME-180 cells with pcDNA-GAS5, lower left quadrant) appears highly similar to Figure 2C (Apoptosis of MKN-28 cells transfected with Control were tested by flow cytometric analysis, lower left quadrant) in a retracted article by a different author group

The authors did not respond to provide an explanation for their request to retract this article.
Following review by the Journal Editor and due to unresolved concerns about image integrity that call into question the validity of the findings, this article has been retracted.
The authors were contacted using the email addresses provided at submission, but no response was received regarding the decision to retract.
