The Cumberlege Seminars in England focused attention on the need to improve co-ordination and the quality of NHS library and information resources and to develop more efficient modes of access to the knowledge base of health. This paper reviews the background to the two Cumberlege Seminars, briefly describes the aims and recommendations from each, discusses progress in implementing the recommendations and offers suggestions for improving library and information support to the knowledge base.
