Abstract

Dr. Kabilan Baskaran is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. He specializes in the areas of aeroacoustics and experimental fluid dynamics, with a particular focus on propeller and airfoil noise, as well as jet aeroacoustics. Dr. Baskaran earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where he conducted cutting-edge research in jet aeroacoustics under the guidance of Prof. K. Srinivasan. In recognition of the impact and quality of his doctoral work, he was conferred the Institute Research Award. Following his PhD, he joined the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, where he contributed to the SILENTPROP project. During his tenure there, he was actively involved in research on propeller aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, as well as installed jet noise, supported by an Internal Pump-Priming Grant. His current research continues to explore the intricate physics of aeroacoustic noise generation and control, with applications in both propulsion systems and airframe components. In addition, he maintains a broader interest in experimental techniques in fluid dynamics, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools to understand complex turbulent and acoustic phenomena.
