Abstract
Smartphone applications for drivers are rapidly growing in the market and the services available to optimize the driving task are also increasing. Although the benefits, the use of applications while driving may cause driver distraction. So, designers need to know how the drivers are actually using their smartphones applications during the driving task in order to have reasonable inputs to design usable and safe interfaces. Therefore, aiming to better understand users’ strategies of use, attitudes and motivations, a qualitative study was conducted through contextual inquiries. The results showed that some variables influence the drivers’ behaviors when interacting with the Smartphone, such as technology affinity, time spend on traffic and driving pleasure.
