The future of education through the eyes of children: An experience in the province of Segovia

Allowing children to express their conformity and disagreement with school is a proposal that UNESCO has promoted with its new report “Re-imagining our Futures Together.” Through this qualitative research, we aim to describe how over 500 children from Segovia (Spain) express -in their code- the responses to what we should continue, stop, and completely reinvent in the schools. The study was developed through a pedagogical intervention using stories and direct dialog with children. The records were analyzed by means of qualitative content analysis. The results highlight the importance of movement and physical activity in learning, the promotion of values such as equality and respect, the need for inclusive and free education for all, the elimination of discrimination and violence in schools, and a change in teaching methodologies toward a more interactive and less exam-centered approach. The study calls for the need to conduct research on the codes of childhood.
