Abstract

Answer B. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
Chronic fatigue syndrome is a diagnosis made after other conditions have been excluded and symptoms need to fit into a set criterion. If known, the underlying cause should be treated. An understandable explanation of the cause of tiredness should be offered and modifiable health factors should be addressed, like stress, work issues and problems with chronic pain and so on. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines suggest that cognitive behavioural therapy and graded exercise therapy (not high-intensity exercise) should be offered to patients because they have the clearest evidence of benefit.
