You are following up a 27-year-old woman who recently had a vaginal delivery complicated by a first degree perineal tear that did not require suturing. She is complaining of dysuria but no urgency or frequency. She has no fever, no abdominal or flank pain and no haematuria. On examination she is apyrexial and a urine dipstick test shows just a trace of blood. Her mid-stream urine analysis, culture and sensitivity test is reported as no bacterial growth.
