Abstract

Answer E. Refer to a paediatrician
Nose bleeds are fairly common with 60% of people experiencing an episode in their lifetime. There are many causes, most of which are benign. Red flag symptoms should be assessed for and relevant investigations arranged. Nose bleeds are uncommon below the age of 2 and these patients should be referred to a paediatrician so that underlying causes can be determined. Other specialists will be involved by paediatricians as required. Blood tests should not be attempted at this age within primary care but investigations should be arranged within secondary care as needed.
