Abstract

Answer E. Pancreatic carcinoma
The median age for diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is 72 years old. Unfortunately, symptoms may be non-specific. Weight loss is a characteristic feature of pancreatic carcinoma. Patients may complain of diarrhoea and malodorous, greasy stools. Pruritus along with pale stools and dark coloured urine may precede clinical jaundice. In terms of clinical signs there may be a palpable gall bladder and skin excoriations owing to pruritus. Those with advanced disease may have a palpable abdominal mass, hepatomegaly, ascites or splenomegaly. Virchow’s node or Sister Mary Joseph nodules may be present in advanced disease. Patients with early or locally advanced disease may have a completely normal examination.
