Abstract

Answer B. Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system
As well as being used for contraception, the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system can be used as the progesterone component within a hormone replacement treatment regime to provide endometrial protection. When used for this purpose, it is licenced for 4 years. Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate injection or etonogestrel (Nexplanon) implant is not recommended for this indication. Topical oestrogen cream will help with vaginal dryness but will not treat hot flushes and so is not appropriate here as the patient is finding the hot flushes troublesome. Tibolone cannot be given within 12 months of the last menstrual period.
