A 32-year-old single mother comes to see you because she is struggling to cope with her 6-month-old son. She feels guilty about admitting that her mood is low. This has been ongoing for a couple of months. She feels overwhelmed by the situation as she does not have any social support in place. She is getting tired all the time and is not sleeping very well. She was breast-feeding, but this has become a chore for her so she stopped and is now bottle feeding. She is not eating and drinking very well. She feels she is not doing a great job at looking after her baby. She has already gone back to work because of financial commitments. She enjoys time with the baby and has never had thoughts of leaving or harming him. She feels that she is too busy with household jobs and looking after the baby at the moment that she does not find any time for herself.
