A 29-year-old man with recently diagnosed testicular cancer wants to start a family and consults for further advice. He was offered a single orchidectomy by the urologist but has declined the procedure. He has recently married and is very keen to start a family. You explore why he declined the procedure and offer advice regarding management.
Removing one testicle does not affect sex drive or sexual performance Research has shown it is better to avoid implants post-orchidectomy Single orchidectomy reduces fertility by 50% Sperm banking is not an option for patients who opt for a single orchidectomy Testosterone is often given in tablet form
