A mother brings her 4-year-old daughter to see you. There is a family history of asthma. Her condition started with episodes of viral induced wheeze. She then continued to have symptoms in the form of night-time cough and on exertion when running with her friends at school. She initially improved with salbutamol (as needed) and Clenil 100 microgram two puffs twice daily, but the symptoms have returned over the past 2–3 months. She is completely well and her examination is unremarkable.
Increase Clenil to 800 microgram daily Prescribe amoxicillin 125 mg three times a day for 7 days Refer to a paediatrician Start Fostair 100/6 1 puff twice daily Trial montelukast 4 mg daily in the evening
