Abstract

Answer E. Prostaglandin analogue eye drops
Treatment of primary open angle glaucoma is undertaken in secondary care and consists of keeping the intraocular pressure within the normal range. This prevents disease progression. First-line treatment is with prostaglandin analogues that increase aqueous humour drainage. Second-line treatment is with topical beta-blockers. Third-line treatment includes alpha adrenoreceptor agonists or carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. Miotic eye drops are appropriate for acute angle closure glaucoma.
