Abstract

Answer B. The Alvarado score
There have been many scoring methods to try to aid the diagnosis of appendicitis. The Alvarado score is currently the most validated score. It stratifies patients into low, intermediate and high-risk groups. A score of less than 4 indicates a low likelihood of appendicitis. A score of 4–7 warrants further investigation with imaging and a score greater than 7 is high risk for appendicitis.
