Abstract

Answer B. Switch to Diazepam
There are two approaches to withdrawing benzodiazepines: Either gradual reduction of the patient’s current benzodiazepine or switching to an equivalent dose of diazepam, which can then be tapered down. Using diazepam negates the problem of exacerbating a withdrawal effect because it does not have a short half-life. Using diazepam can also provide a consistent approach allowing clinicians to familiarise themselves with a reducing dosing regime.
