A frail 78-year-old male patient has been feeling under the weather with a cough for the past week. He is dependent on carers and family. He has had a previous stroke and cannot do a lot independently. The district nurse has dipped his urine. He has a long-term catheter in situ for incontinence and doesn’t complain of any urinary symptoms. There is no history of urinary retention. The urine dip shows protein and leucocytes.
