Abstract

Answer E. Start ramipril
Uncontrolled hypertension is a risk factor for chronic kidney disease and can lead to progression of disease. In patients with chronic kidney disease with evidence of proteinuria more than 30 mg/mmol, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers are the preferred choice of anti-hypertensive. A blood pressure of less than 140/90 mmHg should be targeted. Blood tests should be monitored for renal function 1–2 weeks after starting this medication or after changing a dose.
