Abstract

Answer C. HCV RNA
The presence of anti-hepatitis c virus (HCV) antibodies indicates that a patient has been infected with hepatitis C at some time. Detection of HCV RNA is consistent with active hepatitis C infection. HCV core antigen is offered at some centres, but is not as sensitive a test. A liver biopsy can show the degree of hepatic inflammation, but this has no role in the diagnosis of hepatitis C infection.
