Abstract

The weighted 7-point checklist includes major features, such as change in size, irregular shape and irregular colour (scoring 2 points each) and minor features including largest diameter 7 mm or more, inflammation, oozing and change in sensation (scoring 1 point each). If a patient has a suspicious lesion and scores at least 3, then an urgent suspected cancer referral should be made. The ABCD2 score is used to estimate the risk of a stroke after having a suspected transient ischaemic attack. The Framingham risk score evaluates the 10-year cardiovascular risk of a person. The Gleason grading system analyses prognosis in men with prostate cancer. The Ranson criteria predict mortality in someone with acute pancreatitis.
