Answer D. Urgent gastroenterology referral
This lady should be referred as an urgent suspected cancer to secondary care. The criteria include:
Age over 40 with unexplained abdominal pain or weight loss Age over 50 with unexplained rectal bleeding Age over 60 with iron deficiency anaemia or changes in bowel habit Rectal bleeding and a palpable rectal mass Occult blood in the faeces Age less than 50 with rectal bleeding and the presence of abdominal pain, change in bowel habit, weight loss or iron deficiency anaemia
